But this time, I somehow got it in my head that I need to make my dragon proportionate to the dwarf company. I sure know how to make trouble for myself... This is my first time attempting an amigurumi of such massive size, and for a long time I felt like I'm in way over my head.<br />
<br />
This is an early photo of Smaug, from waay back in February:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jE17YohHxFA/VaJi5WBe-NI/AAAAAAAANhg/LcDoKnywnn4/s1600/2015-02-24%2B15.31.31-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jE17YohHxFA/VaJi5WBe-NI/AAAAAAAANhg/LcDoKnywnn4/s640/2015-02-24%2B15.31.31-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Do excuse the mess on my desk XD. This was taken when I just passed the point of no return. The head alone took over 4 skeins of yarn, and I was seriously worried about budget and time. I wanted Smaug to be the centerpiece of my Hobbit amigurumi exhibition, and it felt like I was never going to be able to finish. After completing the rough shape of the head, I considered just making the head, stick it to a plague of wood, and make it a dragon trophy. And I would have totally done that, except a friend of mine told me not to cop out, and I was crazy enough to listen to him.<br />
<br />
The end product took me over two months, used up over 50 skeins of yarn, and is about 2 meters in length. A billion thanks go to my boyfriend and my roommates, who all have had to deal with the half finished dragon taking up a whole lot of space.<br />
<br />
Anyhow, I am proud to present... Smaug the Terrible!!<br />

The design is based off the final design of Smaug in the film, so it is two-legged instead of four like the smaller version of Smaug I made before.<br />
<br />
Smaug makes the perfect sleeping companion. he is so huggable and the neck is perfect for slipping an arm under, and the wings are so big they can serve as blankets. It's like one of those boyfriend pillows. Hmm, now that I think of it, I should have put a recording of Benedict Cumberbatch's voice in it......<br />
<br />
Oh, and here are some photos of the month-long exhibition of the dwarves. You can see little Smaug resting on big Smaug's wing. =)<br />

I guess I was still caught up in the Valentine spirit even a week after Valentine's Day, because somehow by the time I realized it, I was taking loads of photos of Thorin and Bilbo. Before long it started to feel like I was taking wedding photos XDD Here are a few:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I still can't get over how adorable they are! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hopefully I'll recover from the dwarf hair/beard style nightmare and finish Nori and complete the company. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also... good news!! The dwarves plus Hobbit are going on exhibit for an entire month at the NTNU Art and Humanities Festival! So if anyone reading this is going to be in Taipei this April to May, do come and see them in person! I'll post more details when I'm given more information regarding the exact date and place. =) </div>

We're now on day 200+ (I'm playing as Wilson, by the way.), surviving reasonably well with a self-sustaining base. Take a look =)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t5HrBPEj02g/VMhHs_tB_HI/AAAAAAAANVM/eED9P7fuUlk/s1600/%E8%9E%A2%E5%B9%95%E6%88%AA%E5%9C%96%2B2015-01-24%2B20.53.11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t5HrBPEj02g/VMhHs_tB_HI/AAAAAAAANVM/eED9P7fuUlk/s1600/%E8%9E%A2%E5%B9%95%E6%88%AA%E5%9C%96%2B2015-01-24%2B20.53.11.png" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We both just looove Chester, as was ecstatic when we found the eye bone. Chester's been living at our base, and we take him on adventures. Here's me dancing with Chester.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tsbO7kQVGeQ/VMhHs22jxVI/AAAAAAAANVQ/hLVW-Jw2gfE/s1600/%E8%9E%A2%E5%B9%95%E6%88%AA%E5%9C%96%2B2015-01-25%2B20.59.47.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tsbO7kQVGeQ/VMhHs22jxVI/AAAAAAAANVQ/hLVW-Jw2gfE/s1600/%E8%9E%A2%E5%B9%95%E6%88%AA%E5%9C%96%2B2015-01-25%2B20.59.47.png" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And here is a bonfire night with friendly pigs after a walrus hunt. Chester is really warming up to our pig friends XD<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mId8q6uw2f4/VMhHs6c85SI/AAAAAAAANVU/Q4zYT2GM2fE/s1600/%E8%9E%A2%E5%B9%95%E6%88%AA%E5%9C%96%2B2015-01-25%2B21.56.28.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mId8q6uw2f4/VMhHs6c85SI/AAAAAAAANVU/Q4zYT2GM2fE/s1600/%E8%9E%A2%E5%B9%95%E6%88%AA%E5%9C%96%2B2015-01-25%2B21.56.28.png" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So then I was looking at the Don't Starve wikia, and saw that they've made a Chester plushie!! Naturally, I have to have one too, and so I decided to make my own:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Jb6S3msO9Xo/VMhLIdunUMI/AAAAAAAANVo/qeygAs2ajZw/s1600/10940632_881907958499062_380751871185057188_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Jb6S3msO9Xo/VMhLIdunUMI/AAAAAAAANVo/qeygAs2ajZw/s1600/10940632_881907958499062_380751871185057188_n.jpg" height="640" width="358" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ta-da~~ Do excuse the fact that the picture was taken on my bed XD He's made with furry orange yarn, which is very soft and doesn't hold its shape very well, so I added another layer inside with brown acrylic yarn. I also made the eye bone, which fits right in the chest, with enough room left over for a phone or other trinkets. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2KAdR__U1Bk/VMhOFi45k1I/AAAAAAAANWU/7iNpL3lTesc/s1600/10956047_881907985165726_6649067391463224711_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2KAdR__U1Bk/VMhOFi45k1I/AAAAAAAANWU/7iNpL3lTesc/s1600/10956047_881907985165726_6649067391463224711_n.jpg" height="640" width="550" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sK2PzTrssaw/VMhN1enN1sI/AAAAAAAANWM/6XOOy0rDDL8/s1600/10885183_881908005165724_1845234388660601945_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sK2PzTrssaw/VMhN1enN1sI/AAAAAAAANWM/6XOOy0rDDL8/s1600/10885183_881908005165724_1845234388660601945_n.jpg" height="640" width="614" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pattern is pretty straightforward, basically two halves of a sphere sewn together. I didn't take notes while I'm making this (it cut in line on front of a bigger project so I was in a hurry to finish) so I don't have a very specific pattern. Feel free to message me if you wan to make one and have trouble deducing how something is done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We also have a pet Koalefant, which I am adding to the long list of things I want to make. Everything in Don't Starve is just so adorable! Might be seeing more DS amigurumis from me in the future~ </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The Ultimate Fangirl's Day-trip (London Filming Locations)Let's face it, the two main reasons I chose England to study abroad in is Harry Potter and Sherlock. There, it's out there. So besides Harry Potter Studios, which I plan to visit sometime in May, there's of course the matter of hitting all the filming locations of Sherlock~~<br />
<br />
So, to the heart of London! (This trip took place in February, and, yes, I'm only posting now XD)<br />
<br />
I got the earliest bus I can get without oversleeping, which got me to London at about 9 A.M.. The bus stopped at Victoria Coach Stations, which conveniently placed me near Eaton Square, or, Miss Irene Adler's former place of residence.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lV-_DPYrwkQ/U1o6pcmHv4I/AAAAAAAAB00/F67OrRNwhnA/s1600/Sherlocked!+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lV-_DPYrwkQ/U1o6pcmHv4I/AAAAAAAAB00/F67OrRNwhnA/s1600/Sherlocked!+004.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y0-t0LsijvQ/U1o6pB1CoqI/AAAAAAAAB0s/9sBWPM4pqBw/s1600/Sherlocked!+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y0-t0LsijvQ/U1o6pB1CoqI/AAAAAAAAB0s/9sBWPM4pqBw/s1600/Sherlocked!+005.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yep, that's where it happened! The exact spot Sherlock fired a gun to 'call the police'. Miss Adler doesn't live here anymore, however, since she is reported to be in a witness protection program in America XD </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There were two men in suits talking in a low voice in front of the house, and they looked at me suspiciously as I took photos...for a moment I was like 'oh no, the CIA!' and got nervous in case they'd think I 'know too much'. I wandered around a bit after that, passing the street where Sherlock and John fought, before setting off to steal an ashtray.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2bhDSKlaoJw/U1o6rdiHx2I/AAAAAAAAB08/2LnacvFTLXw/s1600/Sherlocked!+013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2bhDSKlaoJw/U1o6rdiHx2I/AAAAAAAAB08/2LnacvFTLXw/s1600/Sherlocked!+013.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K2hLD3F1T-o/U1o6zGqPETI/AAAAAAAAB1E/lDMxLPrmOw0/s1600/Sherlocked!+036.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-K2hLD3F1T-o/U1o6zGqPETI/AAAAAAAAB1E/lDMxLPrmOw0/s1600/Sherlocked!+036.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Sadly, there's no helicopter ride for me. XD<br />
I didn't go inside, so no, I couldn't steal an ashtray, but I kidnapped Her Majesty's dog!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-50b7ofwMkNM/U1o9yEHjZ2I/AAAAAAAAB3o/M3di-q8S5LM/s1600/Sherlocked!+241.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-50b7ofwMkNM/U1o9yEHjZ2I/AAAAAAAAB3o/M3di-q8S5LM/s1600/Sherlocked!+241.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Isn't he adorable!!!!? I named him Hamish. =)<br />
<br />
Now, where to next? It's time to stop an imminent terrorist attack. After all, the terror alert has been raised to critical. (wink)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U3FeqAlyGxQ/U1o60mg1lJI/AAAAAAAAB1M/Tx2VDbfGCvk/s1600/Sherlocked!+070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U3FeqAlyGxQ/U1o60mg1lJI/AAAAAAAAB1M/Tx2VDbfGCvk/s1600/Sherlocked!+070.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh and I stared at the Big Ben for awhile imagining where Sherlock's bolthole might be XD<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-icv_EDQUqjM/U1o684dJKHI/AAAAAAAAB1c/sI1zuemda1s/s1600/Sherlocked!+088.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-icv_EDQUqjM/U1o684dJKHI/AAAAAAAAB1c/sI1zuemda1s/s1600/Sherlocked!+088.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C7DZ5Y8hWw0/U1o6-hNd1wI/AAAAAAAAB1k/RYwbePp9dSQ/s1600/Sherlocked!+093.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C7DZ5Y8hWw0/U1o6-hNd1wI/AAAAAAAAB1k/RYwbePp9dSQ/s1600/Sherlocked!+093.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery. This is where Sherlock took John to find his own 'consultant', the paint expert. The museum shots are actually not filmed in the National Gallery but in Cardiff, but, hey, it's supposed to be in London, so I'll take it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jQqXWggSnzA/U1o6_FZwOGI/AAAAAAAAB1o/0bNXDIGdWT8/s1600/Sherlocked!+102.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jQqXWggSnzA/U1o6_FZwOGI/AAAAAAAAB1o/0bNXDIGdWT8/s1600/Sherlocked!+102.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Opening scene anyone? I couldn't find a place where I can get a bird's eye view like in the opening sequence, but I was still sooo excited, humming the opening music over and over.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZqrPzA3nE5U/U1o7ETHX36I/AAAAAAAAB10/mFgeShYz4Uc/s1600/Sherlocked!+104.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZqrPzA3nE5U/U1o7ETHX36I/AAAAAAAAB10/mFgeShYz4Uc/s1600/Sherlocked!+104.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Criterion Restaurant, where John and Mike Stamford reunited in the novels. In Sherlock, the coffee cups they were holding in that scene has the word 'criterion' as a nod to the novels.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am just about starving at this point. So where does a Sherlock fangirl go for lunch (late, very late lunch)? Why Speedy's of course!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XqQp7iKEpUY/U1o7Un_driI/AAAAAAAAB2c/cF2WGDE92-w/s1600/Sherlocked!+120.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XqQp7iKEpUY/U1o7Un_driI/AAAAAAAAB2c/cF2WGDE92-w/s1600/Sherlocked!+120.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Looks familiar? This is where Sherlock and John's dangerous new neighbors lived in <i>The Great Game, </i>just across from 221B.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FgrzYAryJ34/U1o7V9kJJjI/AAAAAAAAB2g/07psvV67A5s/s1600/Sherlocked!+122.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FgrzYAryJ34/U1o7V9kJJjI/AAAAAAAAB2g/07psvV67A5s/s1600/Sherlocked!+122.JPG" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The door number isn't 221B now that they're not filming anymore, but the knocker is still crooked! Looks like Mycroft hasn't been visiting! I wanted to knock and have Mrs. Hudson answer the door sooo bad!<br />
<br />

Next, I went to Russel Square Gardens, the place where John and Mike met in the show.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Where John would presumably have gotten his coffee.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So here's me relaxing a bit from all that walking. No old friends of mine showed up. Just as well, I don't have a flatmate to recommend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

This is the window of St. Barts Hospital, right by the place where Sherlock landed. All the windows on the ground floor are covered with little messages like this. Gotta love Sherlockians!<br />

<br />
It was dark and I didn't get many good photos, but I had such fun exploring the place. Sherlock's violin was there and I was itching to play it. The Persian slipper used to hide Sherlock's tobacco is on the mantelpiece.<br />
<br />
In Mrs. Hudson's room there's a bust of Sherlock, and letters between Sherlock and John. Figures she'd be the first Johnlock shipper XDD<br />
<br />

The Hound. Doesn't look all that scary to be honest, reminds me of Fang, really.<br />

<br />
And, like a good Sherlockian does, I got myself 'the hat'. It's an ear-hat, John!<br />
<br />
And so ends my glorious Sherlock trip. There are a few places I missed in London, such as 'Angelo's' where they had their first meal together in 'A Study in Pink', the Tower of London, and so on. Will be hitting those places on my next London trip~<br />

The game is always on!Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04182720557891631677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4598957561889942651.post-57090674631054164782014-04-24T06:50:00.000-07:002014-04-24T06:50:01.351-07:00Hermione's Hat<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Oops, just found this as a draft, can't believe I forgot to press 'publish' again, silly me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't know about you guys, but I'm always staring at hats and scarves of movie characters. I remember watching a rather sad scene in a movie with my family. My mom was quite emotional and turned to share her thoughts but found me staring at the screen, oblivious to the plot because the actress had a beautiful scarf on and I needed to figure out how it's done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, naturally the hat Hermione had on in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince caught my attention.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Look how pretty!!! Emma Watson as well as the hat =)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, I'm not the best knitter back then, so thoughts of making it slipped my mind as days went by.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Until I found the pattern for it while browsing the pattern section on Ravelry! The Hermione Hearts Ron Hat designed by Christy Aylesworth can be found<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hermione-hearts-ron"> here</a>.</div>

I absolutely adore this hat!!! =) Been wearing it throughout this winter and wouldn't stop until it got a bit weird wearing hats out. <div>

I've made lots of stuff but haven't posted anything. Aiming to change that now.<br />
<br />
Few months back I started knitting gloves. I'm forced to retire from amigurumi for now since the local yarn shops don't stock the yarn I use for them, or anything with a skin color I'm happy with. So instead of spending lots of money on an amigurumi using expensive yarn, I opted to make clothing and accessories instead. Starting with gloves, because winter in England is so much colder than it is back home... brrr....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5lnzwl5By0M/U1jkfunoPBI/AAAAAAAABzw/Rw9b-UmRKqU/s1600/2014-02-08+19.20.49.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5lnzwl5By0M/U1jkfunoPBI/AAAAAAAABzw/Rw9b-UmRKqU/s1600/2014-02-08+19.20.49.jpg" height="640" width="358" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The gray pair pictured above is a present for my boyfriend. Sadly, when I return to Taiwan it'll be summer so it won't be much use to him then XD I love the design, the whole thing was quite simple but had that added twist. You can find the pattern here: http://goodforaboy.com/blog/?paged=3</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And for myself I made a pair of long fingerless gloves in forest green. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bshMMANjS8M/U1jmi4-TD-I/AAAAAAAABz4/j5SGHROP9f0/s1600/2014-04-24+11.22.38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bshMMANjS8M/U1jmi4-TD-I/AAAAAAAABz4/j5SGHROP9f0/s1600/2014-04-24+11.22.38.jpg" height="640" width="358" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pattern is the Seeta fingerless gloves by Maria Sheherazade and can be found here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/seeta-fingerless-gloves</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love fingerless gloves. Sure, my fingertips are a bit colder but at least I can get things done. I don't know if my fingers are extra pudgy or something, but for me the fingers are always just a bit too long which made doing anything nearly impossible. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've really started to come around to knitting in rounds. In the span of a month 3 circular needles were added to the collection. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I've also made a caplet, and recently started sewing. I haven't photographed these yet, waiting for a nice and sunny day and a photographer. (I miss you so much, Esther!!!)<br />
<br />
That's it for now~ In the next few posts I'll document some traveling I've been doing whilst in the UK =)Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04182720557891631677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4598957561889942651.post-37197887265032444002014-02-08T14:05:00.003-08:002014-02-08T14:26:43.919-08:00Vintage Home Decor DIY: Boundless Books I was browsing Youtube the other day and found this awesome tutorial for beautiful vintage-styled boundless book paper bundles. Go check him out, he's got some wonderful tutorials I want to try!!! So anyway, the instructions seem so simple and the result looks so beautiful I just had to give it a go, so I went to town and got myself the meterials right away!!<br />

<br />
Oh, just on a side note, you'll notice that the background to my photos are different, that's cause I'm currently studying abroad in the UK! So I'm now living at my new dorm room~<br />
<br />
The tutorial in the video is super simple, but I'll walk you through my process anyways.<br />
<br />
You'll need some books, preferably thick hardbacks. You can usually get them cheap at thrift stores, so keep an eye out. I found a copy of Pride and Prejudice that would be perfect, but the thought of tearing through that gave me the chills so I left it alone. I got mine just under a pound each.<br />
<br />
I practically grew up in a pile of books, so ripping the cover off like I did was a painful process, but eventually I got the binds off. I don't have a lighter, and I didn't want to risk the smoke detector in my room going off, so instead of running a lighter along the spine, I heated the spine on some foil over the stove to melt the glue and peel it off.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MXAabZb4OUg/UvaPWUiCALI/AAAAAAAABcM/BUDZ9MLxd9w/s1600/2014-02-08+15.11.28.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MXAabZb4OUg/UvaPWUiCALI/AAAAAAAABcM/BUDZ9MLxd9w/s1600/2014-02-08+15.11.28.jpg" height="358" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I got a fantasy novel, which means it has maps inside. I really liked the looks of them, so I carefully tore these out for later use.<br />
<br />
Next is time to age the books. The copies were actually already kind of yellowed, but I wanted to distress it further, so I brewed some strong tea, and used the teabag as a painting tool to dye the pages. The video recommended coffee grounds, which gives a much darker shade, but I drank all my coffee and hadn't bothered to go to the super since so tea is all I have. One thing to take note is that it's important to get the edges and sides dyed, or it'll look unnatural.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yap154R5ZY4/UvaQ8L5v_LI/AAAAAAAABcY/DHMuX3G2zaw/s1600/2014-02-08+16.20.48.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yap154R5ZY4/UvaQ8L5v_LI/AAAAAAAABcY/DHMuX3G2zaw/s1600/2014-02-08+16.20.48.jpg" height="358" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It looks quite white in the photo, but it's all stained up and ready to go! Get some twine and tie your bundle up, and you're all set!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Time to get my hands on the maps I set aside! This time after dousing in tea for 5 minutes, I put it in the oven at 200F and left it for about 7 minutes. (You want to check it often, as you certainly don't want it to burn up!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's how they turned out:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GeIOlRz45Sk/Uvalj9YUo2I/AAAAAAAABcs/vFR5CGjNvus/s1600/2014-02-08+19.23.06.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GeIOlRz45Sk/Uvalj9YUo2I/AAAAAAAABcs/vFR5CGjNvus/s1600/2014-02-08+19.23.06.jpg" height="358" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I made a few rips and tears and curled some bits to really give them a aged look. I love how they turned out! I've arranged all this on my bedside table and I just get so happy every time I turn around!<br />
<br />
Now I'm just gonna find a craft for the covers... hmm... they're long enough for my knitting needles to fix lengthwise... perhaps a craft supply holder? I can arrange needles and stitch markers and such~<br />

But anyway here goes.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As anyone familiar with the game will know, in the beginning half of the game Elizabeth meets the Luteces, who presents her with two brooches, bird or cage. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://technabob.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/bioshock-infinite-bird-cage-necklace-by-league-of-shadows-3-300x250.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://technabob.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/bioshock-infinite-bird-cage-necklace-by-league-of-shadows-3-300x250.jpg" height="333" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I thought they were absolutely lovely, and of course I set off to make my very own. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dHV_hlSaGgs/Ut4FqXJWzqI/AAAAAAAABZ4/J3iruFEDgc0/s1600/2014-01-21+11.10.49.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dHV_hlSaGgs/Ut4FqXJWzqI/AAAAAAAABZ4/J3iruFEDgc0/s1600/2014-01-21+11.10.49.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made the bird one earlier on, and the one with the cage is modified from it. The one with the cage is more authentic, so it'll be the subject of this tutorial. Unfortunately I didn't take photographs while making these, but I'll try to explain it as clearly as possible.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The trickiest part is, of course, getting the brooches. The cage one is a birthday present from my boyfriend, who ordered it from Etsy <3 If you don't want to order it from someplace else, you can make your own. I made the bird one myself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, so first you'll need an image to work with. I got the images from screenshots and used Photoshop to modify the lighting and so on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gA8bZRwaGNc/Ut4JQNBec6I/AAAAAAAABaQ/kk5RL3M7YwI/s1600/necklace+new.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gA8bZRwaGNc/Ut4JQNBec6I/AAAAAAAABaQ/kk5RL3M7YwI/s1600/necklace+new.jpg" height="400" width="281" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are the images I rendered, along with ones of Possession and Murder of Crows, feel free to use them if you like =) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I ordered empty pendants from a local online store. Mine came with glass beads with flat surfaces, but epoxy resin is also a good alternative. For glass beads, use jewelry adhesive (I used E-6000) to glue the bead to the desired image. Wait for glue to dry completely before cutting out the bead, and gluing to the empty pendant.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
For epoxy resin, cut out the image and glue to the pendant, then follow the instructions on the packet to use the resin.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
IMPORTANT: Be sure you print the image on glossy paper (like photo paper). Otherwise the glue/resin will seep into the paper and make the color wrong.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pendant for my bird necklace doesn't have a brooch, but it has loops on the side where rings might be attached, so I used that to sew the pendant to the rest of the necklace.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once you have your pendant, you'll want to find some ribbon and lace. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bHUh8pN-c3A/UuBCunfDYmI/AAAAAAAABao/05lhfis2acA/s1600/2014-01-21+11.11.46.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bHUh8pN-c3A/UuBCunfDYmI/AAAAAAAABao/05lhfis2acA/s1600/2014-01-21+11.11.46.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
The ribbon I found was a bit too thin, so I sewed two pieces together, making it just slightly wider than the lace.<br />
<br />
Now everyone can take a minute and mock my terrible sewing skills.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vPyajsPaYOU/UuDKuPa1m5I/AAAAAAAABbE/AhVYKlHjnmU/s1600/2014-01-21+11.13.57.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vPyajsPaYOU/UuDKuPa1m5I/AAAAAAAABbE/AhVYKlHjnmU/s1600/2014-01-21+11.13.57.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The width ended up to be just over 2cm. You might want to go for 2~2.5 cm for a more authentic look. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then it's time to sew on the lace. As you can tell from the photo above, my sewing skills are terrible, so I can't give much advice there except the totally obvious don't t let your thread show in the front.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next, wrap the necklace around your neck and mark where you want the closure to be. You want your necklace to fit snugly against your neck, so do make sure your measurements are exact. Velcro is a good choice if you want to be able to adjust the size with ease. If you're using invisible snaps like I did, measure the spot well and don't repeat my mistake of sewing the buttons on the wrong side. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Combine pendant and ribbon, and voila! Your very own necklace.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EhxHmKKNQQU/UvErXLlV7cI/AAAAAAAABbk/af8gcPuqvTU/s1600/2014-02-04+17.49.44.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EhxHmKKNQQU/UvErXLlV7cI/AAAAAAAABbk/af8gcPuqvTU/s1600/2014-02-04+17.49.44.jpg" height="640" width="358" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A crap picture of me wearing it with my new dress XD </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I find that it's very wearable, it goes with a bunch of my outfits both casual and dressy, and every once in awhile I see someone on the street that recognizes it and makes a good conversation starter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you do make one, leave a photo so I can see~ =D</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Oops. Well... it's here now..<br />
<br />
I know I'm very late to the party with this review, but I actually saw the movie the day after it premiered in Taiwan and another time since then! My progress with the dwarfs have been heavily delayed (I'll get them finished by the time the trilogy ends, I swear!!), so four dwarfs (five if you count in my friend Glen wearing his bearded helmet) and a hobbit accompanied my friends and I to the theaters. There were five of us, so each of us took a dwarf/hobbit.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i-uKgZTIYCA/UsIYOVXoXbI/AAAAAAAABZA/WKr8_zypHKA/s1600/2ZbzX8KFefK4e3skkCtbUE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i-uKgZTIYCA/UsIYOVXoXbI/AAAAAAAABZA/WKr8_zypHKA/s640/2ZbzX8KFefK4e3skkCtbUE.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here they are lined up on the table at the food court awaiting our selection <3</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Anyway... onward with the movie!<br />
<br />
I loved it!!! So much that I went and saw it again the week after, which might now sound like much but I hardly ever do that. I liked An Unexpected Journey, even though parts of it feel kind of slow, namely the part with Radagast and the introduction of the dwarfs. I understand why the latter is necessary though, and I love it wholeheartedly because of Richard Armitage singing >////<<br />
<br />
The Desolation of Smaug, on the other hand, is just full of action and keeps me on the toes the entire time. There are so many things I love about this film that I hardly know where to begin!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.joblo.com/newsimages1/orlando-bloom-legolas-empire.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.joblo.com/newsimages1/orlando-bloom-legolas-empire.jpg" height="640" width="464" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, first let us bath in some Legolas-goodness. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was actually thrilled to hear that they are bringing Legolas in the trilogy, even though he's not in the novel. I have my doubts about it making the film better in general, but I knew that it would definitely be a plus for my fangirl heart. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://legendarium.mymiddleearth.com/files/2013/10/The-Desolation-of-Smaug-Tauriel-and-Legolas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://legendarium.mymiddleearth.com/files/2013/10/The-Desolation-of-Smaug-Tauriel-and-Legolas.jpg" height="400" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.mos.totalfilm.com/images/t/tauriel-kicks-ass-in-new-tv-spot-for-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug-watch-now-149430-a-1385366847-470-75.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.mos.totalfilm.com/images/t/tauriel-kicks-ass-in-new-tv-spot-for-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug-watch-now-149430-a-1385366847-470-75.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It's actually the original character Tauriel that bothered me. I thought it might turn into some sappy romance and <strike>take Legolas from us </strike> take away from the dwarfs.<br />
<br />
As it happens, I absolutely LOVE her!!! She totally kicked ass in this film. I loved the part where she asked Legolas "Are we not part of this world?" She's strong-minded and has different ideas about the world and her part in the world than other elves. No wonder Legolas has a crush on her.<br />
<br />
There's a sort of love triangle between her, Legolas and Kili. Kili totally had Legolas beat, with all the talk about promises and starlight and moon-rise. Some people hated it. I thought it was cute. It would have been nice to see more of her ideals motivate her actions, since running after the dwarfs to Laketown and leaving Legolas to get beat up by orcs to save Kili... a lot of her actions in the second half of the film seemed to be motivated by her feelings for Kili (honestly though, who can blame her?)<br />
<br />
Moving on, another of my favorite aspects of the movie... Thranduil!!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www-images.theonering.org/torwp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Thranduil-Bus-Shelter-HDOS-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www-images.theonering.org/torwp/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Thranduil-Bus-Shelter-HDOS-1.jpg" height="640" width="440" /></a></div>
<br />
The way he moves and the camera angles... for a while I forgot if I was watching the Hobbit or New Zealand's Next Top Model!! I gave an involuntary squeal when he swooped (yes, swooped, not bent) down to talk to Thorin. Loved Lee Pace's performance!!<br />
<br />
Then there's the barrel scene!! I loved how it was fast-paced, exciting, yet so much fun (not to the dwarfs, but certainly for me it was) at the same time. Sure, the fighting is synchronized to the point that it's kind of unrealistic, but I enjoyed it through and through.<br />
<br />
And of course, Smaug. Benedict Cumberbatch's voice, need I say more? I was silently screaming in my seat. It's everything you could ever wish for in a dragon, that's all I gotta say. I just can't help but imagine Benedict prowling around with motion sensors all over though XDD<br />
<br />
It's so nice to watch this with a bunch of crazy fangirls. We knew just the right moment to turn to each other and grin, or grab each other in a silent fit of giggles.<br />
<br />
I can't wait for next year.<br />
<br />
After the Hobbit, we went to a restaurant called Dream of Hobbiton for a late lunch/early dinner. The owner is a huge LOTR fan and had a collection of swords and other props that you could play with!!!!<br />
<br />

I remember seeing it in Nodame Cantabile, and a number of shoujo mangas as well. It always look so delicious... when made correctly, of course. Somehow these lemon slices are usually a good indicator of whether or not a character is good at cooking.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images.plurk.com/fYuJ-1ZZ16zsuntCBdMQV0pxzrG.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images.plurk.com/fYuJ-1ZZ16zsuntCBdMQV0pxzrG.jpg" height="640" width="566" /></a></div>

<a href="http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o560/fujiyukigo/5-98.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o560/fujiyukigo/5-98.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
Heaven vs Hell XDD</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I can't say that I am a good cook, but I'm pretty sure I can manage to remember to slice the lemon first XD So last year I badgered my roommate Esther to make it with me. We made two batches in total, and I don't know if it's because we didn't leave it in the honey long enough or what, but the whole thing came out a bit bitter. It's still pretty good for making tea with, and the thinner slices tastes alright, but we weren't really wowed by the final product. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JHIO5rWMkCQ/UrWvfzOTaJI/AAAAAAAABYg/EnWeDbNXHAc/s1600/2012-09-15+21.55.47.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JHIO5rWMkCQ/UrWvfzOTaJI/AAAAAAAABYg/EnWeDbNXHAc/s640/2012-09-15+21.55.47.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div>
Here's a photo of last year's batch. We actually did it with limes. This photo was taken before we sealed it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This year I went shopping at the local grocery store and saw that they had beautiful looking lemons, so I bought some honey and attempted it again. This batch turned out marvelously.</div>
<div>
It's starting to get cold here in Taipei, and I've been having cold symptoms all week. A few slices and a few spoonfuls of the honey in a cup of hot tea down and all my symptoms cleared up like I had imagined them!<br />
<br />
To make some honey-lemon slices yourself, you'll need:<br />
<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>A jar or container that can be sealed airtight. </li>
<li>lemons (as much as you like)</li>
<li>honey (as much as you need to cover all the lemons you're using)</li>
<li>salt</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
So here's what you do:<br />
<br />
<br />
<ol>
<li>With salt, scrub the outside of the lemon. The idea is to get the bitter oil out from the peel.</li>
<li><br /></li>
<li>Slice lemon into thin slices and layer in container.</li>
<li><br /></li>
<li>Cover lemon slice with honey. Be sure to cover it thoroughly. I do this by placing one layer of lemon slices, cover with honey, place another layer, cover with honey, and so one. If you're using a jar, don't fill it to the brink. The honey will absorb the moisture from the lemons, so if you fill the jar up it will overflow.</li>
<li><br /></li>
<li>Seal the container and leave for 3~5 days. You can leave it at room temperature or put it in the fridge. It takes longer in a refrigerator.</li>
</ol>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hOkcXzMwLqA/Urue-nUvnTI/AAAAAAAABYw/kYzEWDTLMxY/s1600/2013-12-17+00.57.11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hOkcXzMwLqA/Urue-nUvnTI/AAAAAAAABYw/kYzEWDTLMxY/s640/2013-12-17+00.57.11.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is what this batch looks like after 5 days.<br />
<br />
It keeps for a long time, but I'm sure it won't take long for you to finish it =) I use up the honey really fast making tea.<br />
<br />
My roommates really enjoyed it, and are now making some themselves. I'm thinking about making some in jars and sending them to my friends over winter vacation.<br />
<br />
Been a bit busy lately so many things are currently on hold. I'll post a review of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug in the next few days.<br />
<br />
Oh and lastly, Merry Christmas, everyone!</div>

I sucked so bad at FPS games that I tend to die within 5 minutes of any kind of fight. So yeah.<br />
<br />
I do however love to watch playthrough videos, so I can enjoy the storyline without being killed like, 5 times an hour.<br />
<br />
So a few months back I finished watching the youtuber <a href="http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu2yrDg7wROzElRGoLQH82A">Cry</a>'s playthrough of Bioshock Infinite, I was completely hooked. I love the art, the story... basically everything. And this is one of the few games to reduce me to actual tears... ah but I won't spoil anything in case anyone reading this hasn't played (or in my case, watched) the game yet.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I'm totally in love with Elizabeth in the game. Straight up there with Midna and Zelda on my list of favorite female characters! She's got personality, an amazing back story, and none of that whiny damsel in distress quality that annoys me to no end. Just recently, I've begun preparing my Elizabeth cosplay costume for a convention in Taipei in December!<br />
<br />
How in the world can I not make an Elizabeth amigurumi with the amount of love I have for her? So, taking a break from my dear dwarfs, I went for it~ And as an added bonus, here's the free pattern =)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.questsofquirkiness.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/bioshock_infinite_elizabeth_corset_by_armachamcorp-d647bgt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://www.questsofquirkiness.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/bioshock_infinite_elizabeth_corset_by_armachamcorp-d647bgt.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Okay, so here's the picture I used for reference. I used pretty much the same pattern for all my humanoid amigurumi's and Elizabeth is no different.<br />
<br />
First, a photo spam~<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
Materials you'll need: yarn (blue, black, dsark brown, white, skin), 2.5mm (4/0) crochet hook, stuffing, 8mm eyes, yarn needle, stitch marker<br />
<br />
<b>Important!!!!!! Note: Parts of the pattern are incomplete. I redid some things while making this and didn't always note the changes down. Please go through the entire pattern before deciding whether to begin the project. Don't want people wasting good yarn. </b><br />
.<br />
<b>Head and Body</b><br />
<br />
*Stuff as you go along.*<br />
<br />
Rnd1: With skin color, ch 5, sc in sec. ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, 2sc in next ch. In back loops, sc in next 3 ch, 2sc in next ch. (10 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 2: 2sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next sc. (14 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 3: Sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next sc (18 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 4: Sc in next 3 sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2sc in next sc. (22 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 5&6: Keep increasing in each corner (increase 4 stitchs in each round) until stitch count is 30. (30sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 7: *sc in next 4 sc, 2sc in next sc* repeat to end. * (36 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 8~11: sc all around (36 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 12: sc in next 16 sc, sc2tog, *sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog* twice, sc in next 6 sc (33sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 13: repeat row 12 (30 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 14: *sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog* 6 times (24sc)<br />
<br />
It's a good idea to put in the eyes now. I put mine between rows 7 and 8, about 5 stitches apart.<br />
<br />
Rnd 15: *sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog* 6 times (18sc)<br />
<br />
Row 16: *sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog* 3 times (15sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 17: *sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog* 3 times (12sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 18: *sc in next sc, sc2tog* 4 times (8sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 19~21: sc all around (8sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 22: *sc in next sc, 2sc in next sc* (12sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 23: *sc in next 3 sc, 2sc in next sc* 3 times (15sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 24: *sc in next 4 sc, 2sc in next sc* 3 times (18sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 25: *sc in next 2 sc, 2sc in next sc* 6 times (24 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 26: *sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc* 4 times (28sc)<br />
<br />
Now, it's time to start on the breasts. Because you might have put the eyes in a slightly different place than mine, I'm just going to explain how the next round goes instead of giving specific stitch counts.<br />
<br />
Rnd 27: First, you're going to figure out where the point between her breasts are going to be. Find the point between the eyes and trace down to find the center stitch. Mark it with a stitch marker (I don't have one handy so I improvised with a paperclip). Count 4 stitches on either side of the marked stitch. Sc until you reach the 4 stitches, then crochet the following: *2sc in next sc, 3sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*. Sc on the marked stitch, then repeat from *to*. (40sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 28~29: sc all around (40sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 30: Switch to white, sc all around, but this time skip the center stitch. (39sc)<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Rnd 31: Sc all around. (39sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 32: Count 10 stitches on each side of the center stitch. You will now be decreasing. Sc until you reach the 10 stitches, then crochet the following *sc in next sc, sc2tog four times, sc in next sc* twice. (31sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 33: Count 6 stitches on each side of the center stitch. Sc until you reach the 6 stitches, then crochet the following *sc in next sc, sc2tog twice, sc in next sc* twice. (27 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 34: *Sc in next 7 sc, sc2tog in next sc* three times. (24 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 35: * Sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog in next sc* 4 times. (20 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 36~40: Sc all around. (20 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 41: *Sc in next 4 sc, 2sc in next sc* 4 times. (24 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 42: *Sc in next 7 sc, 2sc in next sc* 3 times. (27 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 43: *sc in next 8 sc, 2sc in next sc* 3 times. (30 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 44: sc all around (30sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 45: sc all around. (30 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 46: in back loops only, *sc in next 8 sc, sc2tog* 3 times. (27sc)<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Legs (continue from body)</b><br />
<br />
Rnd 47~48: sc all around. (27sc)<br />
<br />
Find the center stitches again (this time we'll need to note the one on the back as well), and mark them with stitch markers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NT2fWDOnywI/Ukjlvpt6IdI/AAAAAAAABXM/ZbwXyEmxrIY/s1600/2013-09-01+01.59.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NT2fWDOnywI/Ukjlvpt6IdI/AAAAAAAABXM/ZbwXyEmxrIY/s640/2013-09-01+01.59.59.jpg" width="358" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Rnd 49: sc to the marked stitch, ch 2, sc on second marked stitch, sc on the 2 ch towards the first marked stitch. Continue the round until you reach the second marked stitch.<br />
<br />
You'll be working with legs separately from now on. For the second leg, sc along the back loops of the 2 ch made in round 49. Each leg should start with roughly 16 sts around, adjust by sc2tog or 2sc if necessary.<br />
<br />
<b>Legs (separate)</b><br />
<br />
Rnd 1: sc all around (16sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 2: * sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog in next sc* 4 times (12sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 3~11: sc all around (12 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 12: *sc in next sc, sc2tog* 4 times (8sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 13~21: sc all around (8sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 22: *sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog* twice (6sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 23: sc all round (6sc)<br />
<br />
<b>Skirt</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Rnd 1: sc around the front loop of round 45 of the body. (30sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 2: *sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc* 6 times (36sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 3: *sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc* 6 times (42sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 4~23: sc all around (42sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 24: In front loops only, sc all around (42 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 25: sc all around (42sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 26: In white, sc all around in back loops of rnd 23 (42sc)<br />
<br />
<b>Bolero (front, make two)</b><br />
<br />
Row 1: ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc through the row. (3 sc)<br />
<br />
Row 2: ch to the end. (3 sc)<br />
<br />
Row 3: ch in next 3 sc, 2sc in next sc (4 sc)<br />
<br />
Row 4: ch to the end. (4 sc)<br />
<br />
Row 5: ch in the next 4 sc, 2sc in next sc (5 sc)<br />
<br />
Row 6~8: ch to the end (5 sc)<br />
<br />
Row 9: ch in the next 5 sc, 2sc in the next sc (6 sc)<br />
<br />
Row 10~12: ch to the end (6 sc)<br />
<br />
<b>Bolero (back)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Row 1: ch 13, sc in second ch from hook, sc to the end (12 sc)<br />
Row 2: sc to the end. (12 sc)<br />
Row 3: 2sc in first sc, sc to the last sc, 2sc in last sc. (14 sc)<br />
Row 4~12: sc to the end. (14 sc)<br />
<br />
Now sew the front pieces to the back to complete the Bolero, leaving a gap in the space where the arms would go.<br />
<br />
<b>Arms (make two)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Rnd 1: Make magic circle of 6 scs. (6 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 2: *sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc* twice (8 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 3~16: sc all around (8sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 17: *sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog in next sc* twice (6 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 18: switch to white, sc all around (6 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 19: *sc in next 2 sc, 2sc in next sc* twice (8sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 20: *sc in next 3 sc, 2sc in next sc* twice (10sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 21: sc all around (10 sc)<br />
<br />
Fold white part up.<br />
<br />
<b>Hands (make two)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Rnd 1: ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, 2sc in next ch. In back loops, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc (8 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 2: *sc in next 3 sc, 2sc in next sc* twice (10 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 3~4: sc all around (10 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 5: *sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog in next sc* twice (8 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 6: *sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog in next sc* twice (6 sc)<br />
<br />
Sew to arms.<br />
<br />
<b>Boots (make two)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Rnd 1: ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, 2sc in next ch. In back loops, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc (8 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 2: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2sc in last sc (12 sc)<br />
<br />
Rnd 3~4: sc all around (12 sc)<br />
<br />
Now's the part I failed to take note of. Basically I did sc for the top of the boots (6 sc), then an hdc, then 4 dcs, and an hdc. I repeated this for around 3 more rows, sometimes decreasing where the hdc should be and increasing immediately after to make up for stitch count. I did a few more rows after that, to where I think the ankles might be, then sc around to the center point in the front of the boot, turn, sc around again to the center, turn, and continue as so for a few more rows.<br />
<br />
<b>Hair</b><br />

Find where you want the hair to be parted. With dark brown (should be darker than what I used > <) knot 2 rows along that line, each parted a different way, and contine knotting rows under that. It's best to do just enough rows so that the scalp is not exposed. Too many rows can make the hair to poufy. I glue a layer of hair to the scalp so that she won't go bald every time someone holds her upside down.<br />

<br />
How I knot the hair on is in this post: <a href="http://crochetfangirl.blogspot.tw/2013/02/amigurumi-hair-tutorial-pigtails.html">http://crochetfangirl.blogspot.tw/2013/02/amigurumi-hair-tutorial-pigtails.html</a><br />
<br />
I did a row and a half of scs in skin color on her face as the nose, I don't have it written down exactly what I did, but this is competely optional and not hard to figure out.<br />
<br />
Now embroider the black lines onto the corset, and her necklace (I did mine in white), style her hair a bit, and voila!<br />
<br />
<br />
My Elizabeth now stays happily with my friend (he'll probably want to stay unnamed XD), who refers to her as his daughter, and promises to take her to Paris one day 。◕‿◕。<br />

Kili is one of my favorite dwarfs in the Hobbit. Fili and Kili remind me of Fred and George in Harry Potter. They're always so full of energy, always making all sorts of mischief, and in general always so perfectly lovable.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">reference photo</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I was a bit nervous about his beard- how am I ever going to do that with embroidery without messing up his face? (I am not so confident in the embroidery department) I decided to tackle this with the method the Craftster user queenofcrows suggested to me, felting the beard on with shredded yarn and a felting needle.<br />
<br />
I've also run into some trouble with colors. Like I mentioned in the last post, all the dwarfs require shades of brown, but the yarn I'm using has four to five shades of brown, and not one of the dark enough for Kili's hair. So to compromise and distinguish from other dwarfs, I used black for Kili's hair.<br />
<br />
I'd put off finishing Kili for awhile while I rushed up to Taipei for a convention, so I had half of him lying helplessly on my desk for over a week XD<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Kili about to get his beard and mustache felted on.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Shredding the yarn was slow work, but I had fun picking everything apart over an episode of Hannibal or two. I used a jar I had at my disposal to hold the shredded fibers. I only shredded a bit, and it was way more than I needed. I'm saving the leftovers for Thorin. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was my first time handling a felting needle, so I was a bit nervous about plunging it into Kili's face right away. I had to pull the fibers out a few times, but eventually it turned out the way I liked.</div>

I love Fili, but one look at his hair and beard gave me a headache. All those braids! But I can't let the hair (and beard) style daunt me now, otherwise goodness, what ever shall I do once I start on Nori?<br />
<br />
I'm using mostly Ex991, a Taiwan-made, 100% acrylic yarn that I find to be perfect for amigurumis. It comes in a variety of colors, but since the dwarfs all have color palettes of earthy tones, I'm finding it difficult to get enough shades of brown. As a result, I compromised some of the color differences in the clothes, and changed the color of the boots.<br />
<br />
Here's Fili's head when I'm stitching the hair on:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qEM7cTgELG8/UgndodPrjKI/AAAAAAAABUQ/6hpYZVLYoak/s1600/2013-07-14+00.16.43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qEM7cTgELG8/UgndodPrjKI/AAAAAAAABUQ/6hpYZVLYoak/s640/2013-07-14+00.16.43.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fGyWj80VSxA/UgndoDAC62I/AAAAAAAABUM/eozxR-KWi7k/s1600/2013-07-14+00.16.58.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fGyWj80VSxA/UgndoDAC62I/AAAAAAAABUM/eozxR-KWi7k/s640/2013-07-14+00.16.58.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
He looked a bit like Lord Elrond at first!!! Everyone told me he looked more elf than dwarf. I seem to have a knack for ruining the honor of all dwarf-kind. I sincerely hope I woke wake up to all my dwarfs attempting to strangle me someday.<br />
<br />
The Craftster user queenofcrows left me the wonderful suggestion of using felting needles to apply shredded yarn to make the beard and stubble. I don't have a felting needle with me though, so I went and embroidered. It worked out okay for Fili, but I'll definitely try the new method on Kili. (I've got the yarn all shredded and stored away for later use~).<br />
<br />
Anyway, here he is after growing a beard, hopefully less elf-like:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_WVxbJTepBc/Ugnf7-6UulI/AAAAAAAABUk/BSXqh3qD3yE/s1600/2013-07-14+20.52.30.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_WVxbJTepBc/Ugnf7-6UulI/AAAAAAAABUk/BSXqh3qD3yE/s640/2013-07-14+20.52.30.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I did a bunch of slacking off before finally finishing the rest of him after half a season of Hannibal. (Spectacularly creepy show that gave me goosebumps, by the way. Love it despite having trouble eating meat afterwards.) </div>

The furry yarn used for his coat sheds <i>everywhere</i>!! It drove me absolutely mad! I believe I inhaled some in the process. All things aside though, I love working with different yarn, and this one is no different =)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up is Kili! I've finished about half as of typing this post up, but I've run out of yarn so it'll be awhile. Oh, and I also need a felting needle XP</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I haven't decided on where these dwarfs will go once they are finished. I know for sure that I don't want them separated from one another, and that I'll be taking them to the movie premieres. So until the trilogy ends, I won't be parting with them just yet! Then again this is just the third dwarf, so I still have a long way to go before deciding things like these.</div>

(Meaning Thorin will be last, which will serve as motivation to stick to the end XD) So after Dwalin is Balin, at your service. <br />
<br />
I'm not sure if anyone else share my thoughts, but my first impression of Balin is Santa XDD I contemplated using a blend of white and gray for the hair, but decided to go for white in the end. It's less realistic but I find it really cute!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At one point I had to get his beard out of the way to sew the collar on, and to do that I tied his beard up in a nice little bow, which I imagine is somewhat of an insult to any self-respecting dwarf. Sorry, Balin, had to be done XD I hereby apologize to all dwarf-kind!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up is Fili, who is already half-way there~</div>

<br />
In the midst of the onslaught of reports and assignments and club activities and the anxiety from finals week approaching, I finished making Dwalin!<br />
<br />
Funny thing is, though he's a dwarf, Dwalin is the tallest amigurumi I've made to date.<br />
<br />

I had fun experimenting with the furry yarn used for the fur piece. I went looking for the yarn with my Hobbit Official Movie Guide and showed the lady there photographs of Dwalin. She thought I wanted to make an actual fur piece, and stared at me as though I'm crazy XD<br />
<br />
He's a good deal taller than Bilbo, but Dwalin is one of the tallest dwarfs in the company, and I'm worried that Bilbo is going to end up taller than some of the dwarfs... hmm... Oh well, as long as Thorin is taller than Bilbo, it's fine with me XD (Bagginshield shipper revealed)<br />
<br />
Oh, I almost forgot! I took Dwalin with me to my aunt's house, and my aunt posed him with her kitten~<br />

<br />
Dwalin is actually finished long before this post. Like I said, I put it in draft and forgot about it *hides face*. So I'm actually already done with Balin, and Fili is coming together nicely.<br />
<br />
For the sake of counting down though, we'll pretend I posted on time:<br />

My very own adorable gentle-hobbit. I tried something a bit different with this amigurimi. I added a nose and ears, which I never do in fear of messing everything up. I also made an attempt to shape the limbs a bit more instead of just making a tube... hope it shows XD<br />
<br />
Anyway, here it is~<br />

If that's the case, I feel so bad for you because they're great XD) shake it for about 30 to 60 minutes, you'll end up with a chocolate (or whichever flavor you're working with) and crushed cookies ball.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r2GbILqXVFA/T6XltYGN4MI/AAAAAAAAAKw/-OvPovtRrN0/s1600/koalas+march+images-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r2GbILqXVFA/T6XltYGN4MI/AAAAAAAAAKw/-OvPovtRrN0/s400/koalas+march+images-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It soon became a trend all over, to the point where the cookies were sold out in the nearest 7-11 when I tried to get a box! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, naturally I decided to give it a try. After all, worst-case scenario is that I end up with chocolaty goo. Which doesn't sound all that bad, all things considered.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You can feel the koalas crushing and getting dismembered as you start to shake it. After awhile the contents inside start to feel a lot more solid.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And around 30 minutes (I don't know how long exactly, my arms got sore and I took a break), voila!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nKsMEqqv8s8/UZu9TjGipJI/AAAAAAAABPs/Vz_X_eUhCP0/s1600/941290_581219868565347_511297990_n+-+%E8%A4%87%E8%A3%BD.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nKsMEqqv8s8/UZu9TjGipJI/AAAAAAAABPs/Vz_X_eUhCP0/s640/941290_581219868565347_511297990_n+-+%E8%A4%87%E8%A3%BD.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The moisture in the filling softened up the cookie, but it's still slightly crunchy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And of course I couldn't stop there! So my dear roommate and I went and got the other flavors as well.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next is cream. It took a longer time than the others to shake into a ball. Esther assumes it's because of a higher protein content, but we're no scientists, and there are too many factors we couldn't account for, so we do the only thing we can do after dissecting it-- eat it up. Yum!</div>

I want to make the Hobbit characters- everyone in the company and one evil dragon- before the end of this year. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yep.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That's one dragon down, a hobbit, 13 dwarves, and a wizard to go. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://climbformemory.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/THE-HOBBIT-DWARVES3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="262" src="http://climbformemory.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/THE-HOBBIT-DWARVES3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay... I'm starting to feel queasy after putting the photo up. That's a lot of dwarves! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm starting with our dear burglar. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01635/SNF10HOBB6_1635196a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01635/SNF10HOBB6_1635196a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the reference pic so far. There was a inner battle between this version and Bilbo with his suspenders, but I decided on the perfectly respectable version XD </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He's the most colorful of the lot, isn't he? After him I guess I'll be dealing with loads of grays and browns XD</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Providing that I finish, of course. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So if anyone out there is reading this and would like to see the whole cast completed, I'd love a word of encouragement (or scolding, if I'm slacking off).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'd love to take them all to the next Hobbit movie with me =)</div>

</div>
<div>
Come to think of it, I've gone through seasons of TV shows never really getting the plot... XD</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Anyway, this week's project is Miku's leek. Of course anyone even remotely familiar with Vocaloid will know Miku's Ievan Polkka, the video in which she waves a leek back and forth.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/kbbA9BhCTko?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As it happens, the leek I made turned out to be as tall as my Miku amigurumi, since I wanted to be able to swish it around (in case I ever cosplayed as Miku XD) Here it is: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
So I went crazy on the next yarn-shopping spree and started sketching out the design I want. I based the helmet off of Gimli's helmet from the LOTR movies, as most of the reference photos I found for helmets seem to be his.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vV8Ol3KFOO0/UZOnb023hFI/AAAAAAAABOw/0IDJxitRYJQ/s1600/C360_2013-05-14-00-40-05-513.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vV8Ol3KFOO0/UZOnb023hFI/AAAAAAAABOw/0IDJxitRYJQ/s640/C360_2013-05-14-00-40-05-513.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's what I have for the helmet part. (Forgive the awful quality of the photo and the state of my face XD)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xrfz4JBuYQU/UZOncVUzCsI/AAAAAAAABO4/J2JdP_mOrRQ/s1600/C360_2013-05-14-23-10-10-104.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xrfz4JBuYQU/UZOncVUzCsI/AAAAAAAABO4/J2JdP_mOrRQ/s640/C360_2013-05-14-23-10-10-104.jpg" width="358" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The beard consisted of a base, with clumps of yarn hooked onto it. Here's my dear roommate Esther in the half-completed beard.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lmpxyhMJEDk/UZOncVeaL1I/AAAAAAAABO8/BzP4pnblgtc/s1600/C360_2013-05-15-18-10-56-917.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lmpxyhMJEDk/UZOncVeaL1I/AAAAAAAABO8/BzP4pnblgtc/s640/C360_2013-05-15-18-10-56-917.jpg" width="358" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finished it this afternoon and gave it to Glen right away. Here he is modeling the completed project. It's almost summer and we have sweltering hot weather, but he just won't take it off XDDD</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The materials are all set now for Bilbo, so I'm probably gonna make him next. Let's see how many dwarfs I can finish before the next movie comes out!</div>

I was shopping at a craft shop near my school and found this Japanese fun fur...-ish yarn. I loved the feel of it so much that it magically went into my shopping cart.<br />
<br />
I decided to make myself a furry little critter. In this case, a puppy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pn9CUveeZgg/UY-Ymp8udoI/AAAAAAAABN8/02Tgtxr7Y1c/s1600/2013-04-12+03.03.25-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Pn9CUveeZgg/UY-Ymp8udoI/AAAAAAAABN8/02Tgtxr7Y1c/s640/2013-04-12+03.03.25-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's the head sitting on top of the rest of the yarn. It looks like a fluffy snow man XDD</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't know if it's the best way or not, but I used a smaller hook, and brushed the hair out with a fine-toothed comb every now and then. It worked pretty well for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's what the completed puppy looks like:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

The Art Department is doing henna tattoos (the process is more accurately called Mehndi) and just had to give it a try.<br />
<br />
The whole process is very simple, henna paste is applied, then peeled off after it dries. It'll last for about two weeks~<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DQXAlK9-VnU/UVRzjUERICI/AAAAAAAABLw/tjqMLIWK7Zg/s1600/2013-03-28+10.50.18-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DQXAlK9-VnU/UVRzjUERICI/AAAAAAAABLw/tjqMLIWK7Zg/s640/2013-03-28+10.50.18-1.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So lovely~ It took about 20 minutes to do, and it was certainly worth the wait!</div>

Here's me and the super nice art major that did the Mehndi for me.</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's a before and after shot. It's a orange-ish brown at the moment (it's darkened somewhat since the photo was taken), and it's supposed to keep changing shades of brown before it fades.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Apparently this is a tradition brides in India. The bride wouldn't start doing household chores until after the design fades. So I'm vehemently refusing to take out the trash for two weeks! *Roommates send death-glares*Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04182720557891631677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4598957561889942651.post-29840521440942990102013-03-28T09:02:00.002-07:002013-03-28T09:02:54.750-07:00Happy Early Easter!We had an Easter party in Freshmen English today! Professor Mary brought eggs for us to decorate! The last time I dyed an egg was back in elementary school (and even then the eggs were for the kindergarten kids), so it was so exciting for me! <br />

This one is mine~ The egg is hard-boiled, so there's no blowing out the insides, and it's now in my stomach XDD<br />

I was hesitant but decided to apply, half-thinking I probably would't be hired anyways. I was caught off guard when, a day after sending out the forms, that everyone who applied would most likely be hired. XD<br />
<br />
I was sooo nervous! My hometown is Taichung, and really didn't know Taipei all that well yet. Plus I'm not so confident about my Japanese. The people from the travel agency assured us that we can speak English but I'm still nervous as hell.<br />
<br />
I met the girls (and thankfully I got an all-girls group!) at the National Palace Museum. We threaded through packs and packs of Chinese tourists and just barely got a glimpse of that famous Jadeite Cabbage everyone's lining up to see.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.asianartblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/jadeite-cabbage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://www.asianartblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/jadeite-cabbage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I remembered being able to look at in for quite a long while without craning around a bunch of people when I was little... it certainly isn't the case anymore.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thankfully one girl in my group speaks both Chinese and English fluently (bless her!), so I didn't have that much trouble communicating with them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was sad to hear that the girls have not enjoyed their meals so far on their trip to Taiwan. It's such a shame! I've always loved food here and from all my travelings, found Taiwanese cuisine to be the best ever and take great pride in it. Must say it's disappointing to see that their traveling agency decided to skimp on food. I had made a reservation for Cha For Tea, a chain tea shop/restaurant. I had thought that the set meal might be a bit much for a high school girl, but they all ordered a set each! (Good gracious have they starved you all before? XD) I think they enjoyed the meal (lets out relieved breath)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got them all to sign my planner~ (Ignore the stamps on the bottom, I got them on another trip XD)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After lunch we headed to Ximen. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Their report topic for this trip is Taiwan's society. The girls designed a questionnaire, and we spent the better part of the afternoon getting people on the street to fill them out. (I did one too! ^^)</div>

Afterwards we did a bit of shopping, then headed back to the hotel for the banquet. (All you can eat Haagen Daz!!! Yum!)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And look what the girls got me!!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qvz9z38Nrms/UVMmWgfeMGI/AAAAAAAABIc/oimTg4snJl4/s1600/2013-03-26+18.46.46-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qvz9z38Nrms/UVMmWgfeMGI/AAAAAAAABIc/oimTg4snJl4/s640/2013-03-26+18.46.46-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
From the left is Maki, Risa, Komeko, and Pochi~ <3</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tong gave an impressive speech that she came up with under very short notice. So proud of her!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I tried to make small talk with super broken Japanese (hides face). Komeko (oh bless her adorable soul!!) asked me what my dream is, to which I replied is to become a writer. When she heard that I want to write fantasy novels she suddenly became very excited and the only word I can distinguish is 'ring'.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"...Lord of the Rings?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This prompted a lot of nods. (Have I mentioned how absolutely adorable this girls is!?)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"Hobbit?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
More nods. I begin to fear that her head will fall off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"...Martin Freeman?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To which her face reddened instantly!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"Sherlock? Cumberbatch?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have myself a fellow Sherlockian and I didn't realize it!! (bangs head against wall) Gathering courage, I pointed to myself. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"Fujoshi."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To which she nodded furiously and pointed to herself as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And guess what? Tong and Risa are fujoshi too! And we all like pretty much the same pairings!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Holy crap I've been among my kind and it took me whole day to notice!!! I am such an idiot!! I was asked what manga I liked, and I answered "One Piece" because it's a 'safe' answer. Why didn't I pick up the signs!!!? They all knew what a Homoo is when they saw it on my cell phone, after all! I should have just gone all out and answered Sekaiichi Hatsukoi! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I'm so glad I left my twitter and facebook, hope we keep in touch!<br />
<br />
I had so much fun, hope they did too, and I really hope that I did Taiwan justice. Hopefully I can visit them in Japan one day, and that by then my Japanese will be decent enough to have long conversations with them!<br />

We saw these gorgeous long skirts and just had to get it.<br />
<br />
Oh and I just have to mention how it was the first time I successfully bargained with the vendor! The price tag read 990NT, and we got them at 800NT each. I don't know if we got a bargain or not, but I'm very proud to have negotiated for a better price at all.<br />

Esther loves the series The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants, and we always joked that amongst ourselves, we lived like cavemen... so we dubbed this Sisterhood of the Skirts Six Steps Away (our beds and desks are approximately six steps apart), and came up with a few rules:<br />
<br />
1.) Don't pick your nose when wearing the skirt (or EVER, really XD)<br />
2.) Don't be a caveman<br />
3.) Don't hand-wash the skirt (this is actually a must-do, or so the vendor says)<br />
4.) Do swearing while wearing the skirt<br />
5.) Be a girl, not a bitch<br />
6.) Love your skirt, love your sister<br />
<br />
I foresee instances of us stepping out of the skirt in a hurry in order to shout a swearword......Michellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04182720557891631677noreply@blogger.com0
